enjoy nature from horseback
The Stables at Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa are a true reflection of the Tamayame's respect for their land and animals – and an opportunity for you to embark on an authentic cultural adventure. Housed in these modern facilities are some of the most beautifully groomed, mild-mannered, pampered horses and ponies in the Southwest. Allow our trail guides to tailor a riding program to match your skill level, whether you are a beginner or regular rider.
Enjoy spectacular views of the Sandia Mountains silhouetted against the New Mexican sky on a peaceful ride through the cottonwood trees that line the Rio Grande and Jemez Rivers. Or meander along trails where the Tamayame have traveled for centuries. During your adventure, you may encounter some of the abundant indigenous wildlife that roams these sacred lands. Horse Rehabilitation Program
Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa is proud to announce our horse rehabilitation program for neglected, abused and abandoned horses throughout New Mexico. Unrelenting drought and economic recession have resulted in thousands of horses being abandoned by struggling ranchers and farmers. At least 170,000 horses, possibly more, are on their own in states such as New Mexico. They are in desperate need of your help.
In order to combat this growing epidemic, The Stables at Tamaya has created a rehabilitation program led by Connie Collis to provide shelter and care for some of these unfortunate animals.
Collis and her professional wranglers provide surrendered horses with shelter and a foster environment that is conducive to the rehabilitation process. Horses that have gone through the resort’s rehabilitation program either become a part of the Stables at Tamaya, providing trail rides for guests, or may be adopted out.
Book your next meeting at Hyatt Regency Tamaya and also give back to the community by working side by side with the wranglers in caring for the horses and providing them with a safe and comfortable environment while restoring them to full health. We invite you to customize your level of involvement. Donations may also be made in your company’s name to the program to help one or more of these magnificent animals.
The Horse Rehabilitation Program includes:
- Working with professional wranglers at the Stables at Tamaya in training and caring for the horses
- Building additional stables for the horses
- Naming rights for a rehabilitated horse
- Group trail ride and participation in a rodeo
- Link to a live web cam for updates on the rehabilitated horses
